Josef Sifuentes was born and raised in the East End of Houston, Texas. He is a product of Houston’s public schools and Rice University. At Rice he completed his Bachelors degree in Mathematics, Computational and Applied Mathematics, and Visual Art, as well as a Master of Arts and Ph.D. in Computational and Applied Mathematics. As a graduate student, Josef wan a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship to fund his doctoral work. Currently Josef is a research scientist at the Courant Institute at New York University and lives in Manhattan with his wife, Maribel and their little dog Chai. His research interests are in numerical methods for simulating wave scattering and numerical linear algebra. He continues to work also as an artist on community projects with his father, who is an artist.
