Empowering Leadership: Computing Scholars of Tomorrow Alliance

The purpose of this talk is to introduce the audience to some of the challenges that are being solved using the High Performance Computing (HPC), High Throughput computing (HTC) and high-end storage resources available at the supercomputing centers. At the beginning, the audience will be given a high-level overview of HPC and HTC. Then, the audience will be introduced to the basic architecture and the user-environment of the Stampede supercomputer at the Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC). An overview of some of the challenging problems that are can be (or are ebing) solved using Stampede and other supercomputing resources will be provided after that.

Ritu Arora works as an HPC researcher and consultant at the Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC). She is also an associated faculty member at the Department of Statistics and Data Sciences at the University of Texas at Austin. She has made contributions in the area of legacy HPC application migration through her ongoing work on the framework for parallelizing legacy applications in a user-guided manner. Her work on this framework is at the crossroads of HPC and advanced software engineering techniques. Ritu also provides HPC and Big Data consultancy to the users of the national supercomputing resources through her role in XSEDE (Extreme Science and Engineering Discovery Environment). The key areas of her interest and expertise are HPC, fault-tolerance, domain-specific languages, generative programming techniques, workflow automation, and Big Data management. She received her Ph.D. in Computer and Information Science from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
